Secondary schools and sixth forms
Astrocampus
Come and explore the wonders of the universe at the Astrocampus, the University of York’s observatory. We offer evening and daytime openings for secondary school and sixth form groups. An Astrocampus visit can be a stand alone activity or can be part of a wider taster day, including lectures and experimental work.
Individual sixth form students may also be interested in applying for a Nuffield Research Placement, which can take place on the Astrocampus.

For enquiries contact physics-bindingblocks@york.ac.uk.
Online curriculum-linked Nuclear Physics Masterclasses are also available, with options for pre-16 (GCSE or equivalent) and post-16 (A-level or equivalent) students and teachers.

Physics Review

Physics Review is a magazine for physics students studying for AS/A-level, Higher, Pre-U, IB or equivalent qualifications.
Articles in each issue explore physics in situations ranging from everyday applications to frontier research, while regular features by teachers and examiners provide guidance on maths, practical skills and tackling exam questions. The magazine is published four times a year and is available only on subscription from the publishers.
Nuffield Research Placements
Nuffield Research Placements are funded by the Nuffield Foundation and delivered by STEM Learning. They are engaging, hands-on research projects that take place in the summer between years 12 and 13. They are a fantastic opportunity to apply skills and knowledge learned at school and work alongside researchers using specialist facilities.
The School of Physics, Engineering and Technology offers a range of projects each year. However, please note that all applications must be made through STEM Learning and not directly to the University.
