Wentworth Graduate College event for LGBT History Month

Wentworth College Fellow and former York RI Templars captain (gay/bi/trans inclusive rugby) Andrew Malcolm-Neale, will tell his story of being out in team sport to guide this discussion-focused evening.

This LGBTQ+ History Month we will take aim at the exclusion of LGBTQ+ people from the mental and physical health benefits of team sports.

We'll talk through some questions that get to the heart of why we can't name elite LGBTQ+ athletes and invite everyone, straight and queer, to share their experiences with team sport.

What's the difference between elite and community sports for being out? Why are gays at the gym but not on the pitch? Where did we lose the gay/bi/trans sports stars? How do you balance inclusion and competition? Do we need special teams? Is that offending our straight teammates' inclusiveness? And how come the women are better at all of this?
