Change to our services at King’s Manor Library

News | Posted on Wednesday 23 April 2025

In June, as part of the phased changes to academic activity on the King’s Manor Campus, the Library will be making some key changes to physical services offered at King’s Manor. Read on for more information on the changes.

From week commencing 16 June 2025, the King’s Manor Library will be operating as a self-service study space. Our last staffed service at King’s Manor Library will be across the week commencing 2 June, ending at 11am to 5pm on Saturday 7 June. As a result of the changes listed below, please note that our last general book delivery service request date (for all departments and users) will be at lunchtime on Wednesday 4 June and all uncollected holds (including Interlending books) will be returned to the main Library on Friday 6 June to prepare for wider collection and study space changes.

Our collections

The printed collections currently housed in the King’s Manor Library, will be moved to the main University Library week commencing 9 June. The printed collections will be unavailable for 1 week, while the move to the main campus takes place, and the library catalogue is updated.

We will then identify essential reading on current reading lists and transfer these to the appropriate subject area in the main library.

The remainder of the King’s Manor Library stock from the first floor will initially remain in Compact Store 2, which will be inaccessible during the week commencing 9 June due to the collection moves.  We intend to transfer and interfile with the main library collections any item which is loaned and returned through the book sorter in the Morrell.

Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies and the Wormald Collection (including the Newton Collection and the Newbold Collection) will be shelved as discrete collections in Compact Store 2, University Library.

Our study space

All study space will be temporarily unavailable during week commencing 9 June to prepare for the relocation of collections. We anticipate that our study space will reopen as a self-service (no staffed Help desk) from week commencing 16 June.

Study space provision within the current library space will be retained until at least summer 2026. The opening hours will be aligned to the overall building opening hours.

Book Returns

From week commencing 9 June, Library book returns will be possible to all users during the King’s Manor campus opening hours. A secure book drop facility will be available within the King’s Manor campus. We will collect returned items across the week and they will be removed from your Library account once they are back at the main library.

Book Delivery Service

From week commencing 16 June , we will be providing a targeted book collection service at the King’s Manor campus using a set of self-service lockers. The Booklocker will be located in an accessible area adjacent to the toilets and next to the water fountain.

This service will be available to users from departments still located at King’s Manor Campus for the 2025-26 Academic year only, and will be available using the request option on the Library catalogue.

Additionally, York Minster items will no longer be delivered to King's Manor. If you require a York Minster item, you can collect it from the Minster Library (Monday-Thursday 0930-1630, closed one hour for lunch) or request this to be delivered to the Main Library.

Laptop Loans

Laptop loans will still be available for users at King’s Manor Campus during the academic year 2025/2026. The current self-service laptop cabinet located in the library foyer will remain in situ, will be operational during all campus opening hours, and will continue to issue laptops for up to 4 hours, usable on the King’s Manor campus.
