John Schofield gives a public lecture at the National Archaeological Museum and performs a DJ set at Tabacalera, a culture and arts venue

Over the past few days our Head of Department, John Schofield, has been in Madrid at the invitation of activist archaeologist group C.R.A.S. (CRAS - Centro Revolucionario de Arqueología Social) to give a lecture at the National Archaeological Museum, and perform a related DJ set at cultural venue Tabacalera. The public lecture, on the archaeology of the recent past focused on John's work with music, heritage and identity, in London and Berlin. His DJ set, at a former tobacco factory, was also a public event, in part exploring the heritage of dance music.

As John puts it: 'I love these kind of creative encounters, where the formality of a lecture can be countered by the freedom of music and dance. Heritage is for everyone, and these kinds of occasions allow that principle to become a reality.'
