2018 IHBC Marsh Award Winners
The Marsh Awards recognise individuals dedicated to heritage conservation, learning and development
Jane Grenville, Research Fellow of the Department of Archaeology, and MA Conservation Studies student Amy Ward have both been awarded prestigious Marsh Awards by the Institute for Historic Building Conservation. The Marsh Awards recognise individuals dedicated to heritage conservation, learning and development and this year’s competition was particularly fierce.
Jane’s award was for Community Contribution (Retired Member) recognising ‘her innovative contribution has been in setting up a student ‘Planning Club’ with University of York which scans the weekly planning lists to make a first sift of significant cases for comment. Jane’s Planning Club effectively links volunteer student community effort with positive planning for the historic environment’.

Former MA student Duncan Marks and Planning Club member said “Dr. Jane Grenville’s role in setting up and facilitating ‘Planning Club’ for the betterment of current MA in Conservation Studies students has been an invaluable experience for us. Friendly and relaxed as these sessions are, they rigorously test and enhance our class-based learning”.
Amy Ward, a part-time student on the Department’s MA in Conservation Studies course and stonemason and conservator for Mono Masonry received the Marsh Award for Successful Learning in Heritage Skills.
The awards will be presented at the IHBC Annual School in Belfast between the 21st and 23rd of June.
