York is consistently within the top ten universities in the UK for teaching and research

Research Forum

Research Forum brings together Chairs of Departmental Research Committees (DRCs) from across all departments in order to:

  • Communicate the University's research priorities to academic departments;
  • Provide a unified mechanism for disseminating developments in research policy and procedure and other research-related matters across all departments, with a particular focus on the implications for the academic community;
  • Disseminate and discuss developments in the external research environment, including helping to co-ordinate the response at University level;
  • Provide a mechanism whereby representatives of the academic community can feed into the development of research-related policy and initiatives, in particular where cross-Faculty discussion would be beneficial;
  • Facilitate academic-led discussion of research-related issues across all departments, including those raised by Faculty Research Groups and/or individual DRCs;
  • Share good practice in departmental research management across all DRCs.

Research Forum also provides annual training and induction for new Chairs of DRC.

Chairs of DRC
The Associate Deans (Research)
The PVC for Research
The Research Theme Champions
The Dean of the York Graduate Research School
Representatives from Research & Enterprise, Planning, the Library and other areas are invited to meetings according to the business in hand.*

Meetings are informal in nature and formal minutes are not taken. However, details of previuos meetings can be found here. Supporting information for DRC Chairs can be found here.

* As  far as possible, meetings are timed to align with meetings of the York Research Administrators' Forum, and key topics discussed at Research Forum will also be on the agenda of YRAF, where appropriate.

Suggestions for topics or formats are welcomed e.g.:

  • Is there something you need to know about that would be more appropriate for us to invite an external visitor?
  • Do you want to hear from other University service departments?
  • Would you prefer to meet in broad subject areas on occasion?

Please contact Linda Ko Ferrigno with suggestions.

Meetings will be held around campus and suggestions for potential venues are welcomed.  Please email Linda Ko Ferrigno with invitations to use your department.
