The Course

Trainees selected for this route will be placed in two secondary schools within the Pathfinder Teaching School Hub region. They will engage in a range of learning events hosted by Archbishop Holgate's School - the lead school. On successful completion of the course, trainees will be awarded a University of York PGCE at Masters Level, and recommended for QTS with the DfE.

Pathfinder trainees also work alongside trainees on the University of York PGCE route and with trainees from other Lead Partner routes in both Whole School Issues sessions and Curriculum Area sessions at the university. They will also be on placement with other University of York students in regional schools.

Assessment

Pathfinder trainees (like other Lead Partner trainees) and University of York trainees all complete three Masters level assignments (60 credits), that focus on their developing practice, academic engagement with educational research and their training in both schools and university.

Pathfinder trainees must:

  • consistently meet all of the Teachers' Standards by the end of the course
  • attend and engage in all University. Pathfinder School hub and school placement training sessions
  • complete three school placements (Primary x1; Secondary x2), the Professional Enrichment period, and pass the Masters level assignments (x3).

A wealth of extra-curricular and professional training opportunities will be offered to Pathfinder Lead Partner trainees by the Teaching School Hub.
