We are excited to be offering two paid internships aimed at developing your career in archaeological finds and archiving.

A Roman balance found at Malton field school.

The archaeology sector is in need of post-excavation and finds specialists, so we are very excited to be offering two paid internships that will help develop skills in relation to finds archiving. We are focusing on specialist career development and have drawn upon industry standards to help fulfil this.

The Department is currently revaluating legacy archives from previous excavations and field schools. Our aim is to work towards preparing the finds archives to current standards and guidance and to submit the artefacts to museums for finds deposition. This role aims to provide you an opportunity to gain valuable experience in post-excavation and finds processing.

You will be working with one particular finds archive - the Malton Field School 2016-2019. There will be a range of finds types that need to be processed, including bulk finds (pottery, animal bones, ceramic building material) and small finds (such as iron and copper alloy artefacts). You will have the opportunity to develop a host of skills from cataloguing to artefact curation.

Applications are now open and close on 31 March 2024.
