PhD Sociology Studentship

The Department of Sociology has funding available to support one full-time campus-based PhD studentship. Successful applicants will receive a stipend in line with UKRI rates (currently £19,237 per year) and a fee waiver at the home student rate for three years.

Open to International (including EU) and UK (home) students.

In order to be eligible you must also have an offer for a place on this course:

You must be applying to study the PhD in Sociology (full-time and campus-based) for September 2024 entry and not already registered on a PhD programme at the University of York. 

We invite the submission of PhD proposals that align with one of our four research clusters: Culture, Values and Practices; Gender, Sexualities and Inequalities; Language and Social Interaction; and Science, Health and Technology. The following link provides more on the specific research interests of members of the Department.

Please note that only the home fee rate will be waived. International students are welcome to apply, but please note that we are unable to waive the full international fee, so you would need to provide evidence of your ability to pay the outstanding difference in fees. 

The stipend cannot be used for the purposes of funding PhD fees. 

This scholarships are not available for part-time or distance learning routes.
