The East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) is a regional inter-governmental health organisation that fosters and promotes regional cooperation in health among its nine members states (Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Swazliand, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe).

The event will include a seminar delivered by Sibusiso Sibandze (ECSA-HC Deputy Director General) and Edward Kataika (ECSA-HC Director of Health Programmes - on the organisation’s role in the region, including how it works with African academics and policy-makers to foster and promote regional cooperation and capacity to address health needs of member states. Researchers from the York-led GCRF Thanzi la Onse rsearch programme will also provide a series of short health economic research talks on work completed to date in collaboration with ECSA-HC.

ECSA-HC is a core partner of the York led Thanzi la Onse research programme which aims to inform policymaking on health care resource allocation in the East and Southern Africa region. Thanzi la Onse research support to ECSA-HC to date has focused upon health benefits package design and health equity.

York researchers are invited to attend to take part in open discussion with ECSA-HC and external visitors from: the College of Medicine, Malawi; Malawian Ministry of Health; the Infectious Disease Institute, Uganda; and World Health Organization, Zimbabwe.
