LLB Law (Hons)

Tell us a bit about your background

My name is Suharsha Panchali, and I was raised in Sri Lanka, surrounded by a family and community who shaped me with their support, love, and guidance. Growing up, I learned the value of hard work, the strength in kindness, and the beauty of staying curious about the world. These experiences have become a deep part of who I am. They led me to my studies, and today I’m a second-year law student, continuing to build my path with the lessons and foundations my background has given me.

Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?

I wanted to get involved with the Student Expert Panel because, as an international student from an underrepresented country, I understand how important it is to have our experiences and challenges acknowledged. Navigating a new environment can feel overwhelming at times, and I know many students like me may not always feel seen or heard. By joining the panel, I hope to share my perspective, represent voices that are often overlooked, and help create a more inclusive and supportive space for everyone.

What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?

At York, I’m actively involved in a range of roles that support both the Law School and the wider international student community. I currently serve as the Overseas Department Representative for the Law Department and work as a Law School Ambassador. I’m also an International Student Ambassador and a Student Content Creator, helping to share student experiences and strengthen engagement across the university.

Last year, I served as the Environmental and Ethics Officer for Anne Lister College and took part in the International Student Buddy Scheme. This year, I worked as part of the International Student Welcome Team, supporting new students as they settled into life at York.

Outside of my studies, I’m interested in connecting with people from different backgrounds, exploring creative projects, and getting involved in student community activities that complement my academic focus on law and international perspectives.
