Tell us a bit about your background
I’m from a town in North Northamptonshire in the east midlands, where I've had my education from primary through to A-level.
With disruption in my education primarily at the end of GCSE and A-level due to health issues and COVID, I am proud to be here studying at the University of York as a first-gen uni student.
Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?
Coming to the University as a first-generation student from a low-income area was something I took pride in but also something that I felt was made abnormal. It is important for me to be part of something that recognises students who are restricted financially to hopefully help make uni more attainable for everyone.
Within school, I always took part in roles and groups to make sure my voice was known. The SEP appealed to me as an opportunity to be active on campus whilst being a voice to students who can't be.
What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?
Outside of my studies, I take part in many independent hobbies. I have a real passion for writing poetry and try to write as often as I can. When I get the opportunity, I like to enter competitions to speak my writing. I adore music and you can almost always catch me with my headphones in. I find a lot of confidence and ideas within songs, and I feel it helps me to write and speak by influencing my expression.
