Tell us a bit about your background

I am a 21 years old international student from southern part of India and am a single child whose first ever flight trip was the one I took to come to UK last year. Before coming to university, I was involved in handful of volunteering opportunities and communities within
and outside my school, which helped shape my interest in student voice and community engagement. Since joining York, I’ve enjoyed becoming part of a diverse academic and social environment and am always looking for opportunities to contribute to positive student
experiences.

Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?

I’m passionate about making sure student perspectives actively influence decision-making at the University especially being a first generation university student from my family. Students experience the impact of policies and services directly, so having our voices represented is essential. I’m particularly interested in teaching quality, wellbeing, accessibility, campus life, digital learning, and I’d like to help shape improvements in these areas. Being part of the panel gives me the chance to collaborate with staff and other students to create meaningful, evidence-based changes that benefit the whole community.

What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?

I am part of number of societies including the poetry society, Islamic society, tamil and mallu society. I do also play a couple of sports : cricket and Badminton, and currently I am trying to branch out by trying out various events and societies like hummus society. I sometimes also volunteer for the All should Eat and Sam's talking club and love to read, hear music and try being nerdy at my free time.
