Instagram competition terms and conditions - January 2023

The KnowYorCampus competition will run from 5 January 2023 to 5 February 2023, and requires entrants to submit photos taken on any of the University of York campuses - Campus East, Campus West or King's Manor. Images should be posted publicly to Instagram with the dedicated hashtag #KnowYorCampus in the caption. Photos submitted on other platforms, or via other means, including direct message, will not be considered.

By using this hashtag, you grant permission for the image to be shared to the University of York social media accounts. This may include, but is not limited to: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok. Reposted images will always be credited to the original poster where possible.

Entries will be judged by a panel of University staff. Up to 10 images will be selected to be shared directly to @uniofyork Instagram stories and grid. The top three entrants will be offered a selection of University merchandise, to be collected from campus or shipped to a UK address. Of these three, the winning image, as decided by the panel, will be used as a "cover photo" across our social media channels for a period of at least one month.

This competition is open to University staff, students and alumni, as well as members of the public. Entrants do not need to have an affiliation with the University of York, but may only submit photos they have taken themselves or with the permission of the original photographer. Entrants should be at least 13 years of age at the time their entry is submitted.

All communication about this competition will be conducted through the official @uniofyork Instagram account, or via email from social-media@york.ac.uk. The University of York will not contact entrants through any other account or method.

This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram.

The planner should detail a seven-day meal plan suited to a student lifestyle, incorporating three meals a day plus snacks, all within a budget of £30.

Submitted meals should fit into one of the following categories: Standard, Vegetarian, Vegan, Other. All ingredients should be costed, with information on where they were purchased from.

Entrants should upload a completed copy of the Meal Planner, as well as a photo of one of the meals it features, to the NSMW 2023 Meal Planner Competition form.

Photos submitted on other platforms, or via other means, including via social media, will not be considered.

Entrants are also encouraged to share a photo of their meal and planner on Instagram, using the hashtags #NSMW2023 and #UoYMealPlanner. Posts with these tags may be shared on University of York social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok. Reposted images will always be credited to the original poster where possible.

Posting with these hashtags does not constitute entry to the competition, and such posts will not influence the selection of winners.

Entries will be judged by a panel of University staff. Four winning meal planner entries will be awarded £30 worth of vouchers. In addition, judges will select up to 10 people who submit images of their meals to receive coffee vouchers to be spent on campus.

Big Community Challenge: Anneka letter transcript

16 May 2023

Dear Anneka,

We love your TV show and the amazing work you do with communities. So, we wanted to invite you to York to take part in this year’s Big Community Challenge in June.

You might be thinking what is the Big Community Challenge? Well, it is an epic volunteering challenge that brings businesses, community organisations and people together in York each summer. Many years ago, when we first launched our Big Community Challenge, we were inspired by the work you do to get people to pull up their sleeves and make things happen on a really local level, and that’s why we’re inviting you!

This year’s Big Community Challenge is focusing on restoration of river and wetland areas in York. We are going to be creating new ponds and wetlands, restoring riverbanks and even building little island for wildlife here. The work will improve biodiversity in York. These wetland areas will also act as mini carbon sinks, which means the project will be doing its own bit to tackle climate change.

It is taking place between 5 and 29 June across various areas right around York. We are working with the University of York, City of York Council, St Nick’s charity and many of the city’s leading businesses to make this our biggest challenge yet.

So, thanks again for all the work you do to inspire volunteers! And if you want to volunteer, contact York Cares manager on holly.hennell@york.ac.uk. We hope to see you in York this June!

With our very best wishes, the York Cares Team
