Jordanian Prince to speak on the future of the Middle East

Posted on 14 November 2008

Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan is to give a public lecture on ‘Challenges for reconstruction and peace building in the Middle East’ at the University of York on Tuesday 18 November.

It will be the inaugural lecture in an annual series on Post-war Reconstruction hosted by the University’s Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit.

Prince Hassan, who is widely respected for his behind the scenes role in the Middle East, has a particular interest in inter-faith dialogue. He has led many initiatives to encourage peoples of different faiths to engage with one another on the basis of tolerance.

Inter-faith dialogue, and particularly how Western states engage with the Islamic world, has come to particular prominence in the context of the ‘War on Terror’.

The event which is free and open to the public will start at 5:30pm in the Physics Lecture Theatre P/X001.
