New Langwith College on track

Construction team carrying in a kitchen worktop

Langwith College is making rapid progress in preparation for the beginning of the next academic year.

Langwith College will provide self-catered accommodation for 645 students. Costing £30 million, this new facility is being constructed on the eastern side of the central vista on Heslington East, facing Goodricke College, and just to the south of of the bus interchange.

The College will have a social building at its centre surrounded by smaller town houses with several large accommodation blocks around the edge. The social building will offer an ATM, YUSU student bar and a laundry. The accommodation is designed to provide a variety of living experiences to suit new first-year undergraduates, returning students in their second, third or fourth years, and postgraduate students studying on masters courses or PhDs.

New Langwith bedroomConstruction on the blockwork and roof has been completed. Windows are installed and work has begun on the landscaping and cycle storage areas. The student social building is also taking shape.

Completed sections have been painted and decorated, carpets are going down and bedroom and kitchen furniture is being installed. The selection of single cluster and studio rooms, town houses and en-suite student rooms are on track for completion in August 2012 ready for the September/October in-take of students.
