Gender inequality in West Africa workshop

This online workshop, funded by the British Academy and held between 22 and 25 March 2021,  is aimed at female arts/humanities and social science early career researchers and final-year PhD students from English-speaking West Africa (Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone), who are working on gender inequality issues and would like to see their work published in leading journals. It will offer hands-on training in getting published and provide mentoring opportunities that will continue beyond the workshop. 

The workshop is led by senior scholars and journal editors, who will lead plenary sessions on the various stages of the process of writing for publication, provide intensive feedback on pre-and in-workshop assignments, and mentor participants post-workshop.  Articles produced as part of the workshop will be considered for publication in two leading gender studies journals:  Women’s History Review and the Journal of Gender Studies. 

Participants will commit to a total of 4 three-hour online sessions (22-25 March), which will consist of a mixture of plenary sessions and small-group discussion, and complete pre-workshop and in-workshop assignments.  After the workshop, they will also participate in 6 one-hour online mentoring sessions. The total time commitment for the workshop and mentoring is 26 hours. Certificates of completion will be provided upon request. 

We ask PhD students and Early Career Researchers interested in the workshop to RSVP to this call by filling in this form by Friday 22 January 2021. The form will ask you for your personal details and you will also have to provide a short statement why you wish to be considered for the workshop and an abstract of the article that you will work on during the workshop. You will also need to upload a brief cv as part of the online application process.
