News: Henrice Altink awarded funding from British Academy

Professor Henrice Altink has won a British Academy/Global Challenges Research Fund grant to run a writing workshop for early career researchers and final-year PhD students from English-speaking West Africa (Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone). 

Organised with Dr Rachel Alsop (Centre for Women's Studies) and Professor Nana Amfo (University of Ghana), the workshop will be open to those studying gender inequalities in West Africa in the social sciences and arts and humanities. It will be held at the University of Ghana in September and offer hands-on training in getting published and applying for grants. The workshop will also include mentoring and networking opportunities. 

Selected workshop participants will have their articles published in Women's History Review (co-edited by Henrice) and Journal of Gender Studies (co-edited by Rachel).  

The British Academy is funding 31 new projects. As well as enabling researchers to build relationships with academics and journal editors based in the UK and elsewhere, the Workshops will equip researchers with the knowledge and skills necessary to publish in these journals. This will support the progression of their academic careers and promote their research in international publications.

This programme aims to further collaborative links between researchers in the UK and in the Global South, and promote the uptake of research emanating from the Global South in academic journals.
