IGDC Member Spotlight - Jeff Jia

Jeff is currently the Chair Professor of Supply Chain Management and the Director of the Sustainability and Resistance Theme at the University's School for Business and Society. He was the co-founder and director of 'Business, Nature and Value Research Centre' at the University of Exeter, which aims to focus on the relationships between business, nature and value creation. He is also a visiting professor to University of Exeter, Zhejian University (China) and Free University (Italy).

Jeff’s research interests include supply relationship management in a cross-cultural context, global sourcing, supply chain learning and innovation and sustainable SCM in agricultural and industrial contexts. The five research areas Jeff is currently working on include: agricultural supply chain management and cooperatives, e-commerce in agriculture, global sourcing, sustainable supply chain management and supply chain learning.

Jeff has led and been closely involved with industry on a number of large-scale projects including Newton Caldas with University of Los Andes in Colombia; WWF climate savers Chinese innovation case studies and global sourcing and International Purchasing Officers (to name a few)! He is also currently the Principal Investigator on a series of ‘Innovation Case Studies’ examining sustainability-related innovations by the Chinese-based operations of 8 multinational companies. This is a multi-disciplinary project involving colleagues in leadership studies, innovation and supply-chain management, funded by WWF China and HEFCE HE Innovation Fund.

Jeff has published articles in top OM/SCM, Agri-food and IB journals, such as the Journal of Operations Management and the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Before coming to the University of York, Jeff gained a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from China, an MBA from Birmingham Business School and an MRes and PhD in Management from Cranfield School of Management.
