The IGDC welcomes Elise

Last week, the IGDC had the pleasure of hosting another work experience placement with Elise from Fulford School. Read about her time here!

As part of Year 10 Work Experience Week at Fulford School, Elise spent the week with the IGDC. Elise chose the IGDC for her placement as she is currently studying Geography and is continuing this subject into GCSEs, and hopefully A-Levels. Elise recently studied natural disasters in preparation for her Year 10 mocks and wanted to broaden her knowledge in this area by working with our Research Assistant, Alice Megaw. She also wanted to get a feel for university life here at York and get more of an idea on what she would like to do once she leaves school.

Elise’s research for the week focused on exploring natural disasters in Central America. She read a number of case studies and articles about various natural disasters in Ecuador and Jamaica and how these impacted the local communities, inputting the necessary data. At the end of the week, Elise compiled a presentation to summarise her findings and presented it to the IGDC team. Elise enjoyed extending her knowledge on the topic of natural disasters and liked working with the Centre team.

Next year, Elise will be undertaking her GCSEs, studying Geography, Business, P.E. and Spanish and then will hopefully be moving onto Fulford Sixth Form to pursue her A-Levels. The IGDC team would like to thank Elise for all her hard work this week and we wish her the best of luck for the future!

The IGDC are keen to work with local students to provide work experience opportunities, if you are interested in learning more then please get in touch.
