IGDC hosts Easter Party at Gale Farm Court in partnership with York Cares

Last week, the IGDC Centre Team partnered with York Cares to host an Easter Party at Gale Farm Court care home to help contribute to the wellbeing of older people in York.

The party kicked off with musical bingo, using classics from the 40s, 50s and 60s, which went down very well and was a popular ice-breaker. The playlist inspired a lot of singing and a dance off to ‘The Twist’ (which the older residents well and truly won, unsurprisingly!).

The musical bingo was followed by a set of homemade cakes provided by the IGDC team and tea and coffee before everyone engaged in creative activities including Easter card making and sunflower seed planting.

It was great opportunity to socialise with the local community and to help create a positive impact on people’s lives at a time when vulnerability and isolation can be high. We would like to share our thanks to the residents of Gale Farm Court and York Cares for a lovely and rewarding afternoon supporting others.

We look forward to running another activity soon and would welcome other volunteers (staff and students) who would like to get involved. Please contact laura.mcgill@york.ac.uk if you are interested.
