IGDC Member Spotlight - Dr Omara Dogar

News | Posted on Wednesday 29 August 2018

The IGDC would like to formally welcome Dr. Omara Dogar, who joined us in June 2018!

“Tackling Global Health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching.”

Omara is a Research Fellow in Health Sciences. She studied medicine in Pakistan and subsequently trained in epidemiology and public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health before joining the University of York in 2012 for her PhD in Health Sciences.

Omara’s work focuses on transnational health issues related to tobacco use. She is particularly interested in complex systems approaches for evidence translation of health behaviour change that takes account of the real-world circumstances in which people live by studying what works, for whom and why. Omara’s recent research has looked at the links between tobacco and tuberculosis as well as tobacco use cessation. Her research is centred around South Asia, particularly within Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan.

“I joined IGDC to build new networks and potential partnerships with academics from other disciplines. As I work in Global Health, I believe there is a great opportunity to learn from other disciplines and the approaches they use to tackle global issues that I can translate to health related challenges. Working with the IGDC not only will help generate innovative ideas for Global Health but will also lead to interdisciplinary collaboration when applying for external grants”
