News | Posted on Wednesday 27 June 2018

The IGDC is pleased to announce that we have been joined by four interns who will be working with us over the summer period. The interns are all University of York students who are taking part in one of the internship programmes run through the York Student Internship Bureau.

Meet our Interns!

Carla Torres, an Applied Human Rights MA student from the Department of Politics, and Eleanor Oliver, an undergraduate History student from the Department of History, are our new Communications and Research Assistants. Carla and Eleanor will be working together to manage the IGDC Twitter account and provide assistance with other aspects of IGDC communication, including creating the IGDC newsletter, podcasts and videos. Carla and Eleanor will be working alongside IGDC Administrator Laura McGill and Research/External Partnerships Officer Lauren Avery.

Additionally, Maria Jose Ayala, a Public Administration and Public Policy MA student from the Department of Politics, will be working alongside IGDC Director Professor Jean Grugel as a Research Assistant on the Child Carers Project, helping Jean to create a literature review. The Child Carers project explores whether care and domestic work and/or work outside the home harms children and young people. The project focuses on a small group of children in Mexico City.

Finally, Stanley Phillipson Brown, an undergraduate Politics with International Relations student from the Department of Politics, will also be joining us as a Research Assistant. Stanley will be working alongside Post Doctoral Research Associate Dr Alan Msosa on the Thanzi la Onse project. This is a project which aims to design a locally led analytical model to inform decision making and policy in the allocation of healthcare resources. The model is designed to improve population health and reduce health inequalities with the ultimate goal of realising the sustainable development goal on universal health coverage in areas of southern and eastern Africa.

All of the staff at the IGDC are looking forward to working with Carla, Eleanor, Maria Jose and Stanley over the coming weeks! We are hoping to create more internship opportunities for students in the future so keep an eye out on our website and on the University of York Careers Gateway over the coming months.
