IGDC Photography Competition: Celebrating People and Places Globally Winners 2018

The IGDC has the pleasure of announcing the winners of the Photography Competition: 'Celebrating People and Places Globally'

The IGDC held its inaugural Photography Competition with a public exhibition and an Awards Ceremony on Thursday 22nd November in the Spring Lane Building. The IGDC received almost 50 entries from both staff and students across 22 departments at the University, with photographs from around the world from Cuba to Madagascar. 

We now have the pleasure of announcing the winners of the 2018 photography competition, 'Celebrating People and Places Globally' and they are as follows:

  • First Prize Winner: Fishing is the easiest part, Madagascar, Norbert Vanek, Department of Education
  • Second Prize Winner: The Indian Prayer, Varansi, India, Rounak Ghosh, Computer Science
  • Third Prize Winner: Family Outing, Miandrivazo, Madagascar, Hugh Pomeroy, Department of History
  • People's Choice Award Winner: The Indian Prayer, Varansi, India, Rounak Ghosh, Computer Science

We would like to thank everyone who attended the awards ceremony including the Korean Dance Society, Henna Society, Centre for Global Programmes and the York Summer Schools and Short Courses helping us create a fanatic celebration of international diversity and global development here at the University. The IGDC would also like to say a special thank you to John Robinson, the PVC for Teaching and Learning for opening the evening event with an insightful welcome speech and the expert judging panel including Professor Piran White, Co-Director of IGDC, Joan Concannon, Director of External Relations, Alex Holand, New Media Producer in Marketing and Sehrish Shafi, GSA President.
