Festival Del Mangle Project

A community festival to celebrate all things to do with mangroves!

As part of our Global Challenges Research Fund project on building resilience of communities on the Colombian Caribbean coast, we worked with the National Parks of Colombia and a number of community groups to organise a community festival to celebrate all things to do with mangroves.

The festival highlighted the importance of mangroves not only for fisheries and livelihoods but also for other benefits such as biodiversity, water provision and their cultural significance. The event included a football tournament, Colombian music, posters, hands-on scientific demonstrations, and a fashion show featuring costumes made of recycled materials with a mangrove theme.
