The IGDC is now taking applications for a 12 Week Events And Communications Assistant Internship (Part-time).

Project details:

The project will involve assisting in organising internal and external events relating to various IGDC research projects and initiatives. The types of events might include:

  • Monthly IGDC research seminars held at York, sometimes with external speakers from NGOs, other institutions and development organisations.
  • Research events, conferences and workshops linked to existing IGDC projects both in the UK and in project countries, focussing on policy impact.
  • Student and public engagement events to communicate ongoing research and raise the profile of the centre.

This will involve 3 aspects:

  • Event assistance. Assist the team with organising centre events and conferences, marketing these events within and outside of the university, note-taking, taking photographs, data entry and other administrative duties as required.
  • Social media generation and management. Maintain the centre’s Twitter account and update with content advertising and covering IGDC events and events of IGDC members.
  • Writing online copy. Writing copy for the IGDC website and newsletter to advertise upcoming events and cover past events.

We are looking for someone with:

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to adapt content to different audiences.
  • An interest in global development from any disciplinary angle, preferably with an interest in working or continuing study in the field.
  • Social media savvy with experience of writing for social media platforms.
  • Good organisational skills, with proven experience organising events.
  • Good verbal communication and listening skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Design and IT skills
  • Previous experience of Videography
