Senior Lecturer's book Japan's Castles: Citadels of Modernity in War and Peace is now available.

Dr Oleg Benesch, who is a Senior Lecturer for the department, has co-authored and published a book with Professor Ran Zwigenberg of Pennsylvania State University.

Japan's Castles: Citadels of Modernity in War and Peace examines heritage politics in Japan; tracing and examining Japanese traditions, memories, identities and modern transformations through its castles.

Dr Benesch said ''This book was a great deal of fun to research and write with my co-author Ran Zwigenberg, and I found the collaborative aspects of the project incredibly valuable. I also greatly appreciate the generous intellectual input from my colleagues here in History at York over the past several years, as well as the excellent professional support staff who helped me with funding applications and travel arrangements for research travel to Japan, North America, and Europe".
