Threats from the impacts of global climate change and from pollution of the atmosphere, soils, and water resources are serious. Governments now face severe difficulties in meeting human aspirations for energy supply and lifestyle. In order to solve environmental problems, it is essential that we understand the science underpinning the major issues such as climate change, air pollution and water quality.
