Congratulations to our CRESJ PhD students

Our Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice (CRESJ) student, Paulina Bronfman successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education.

The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 15 November 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Problematizing Shakespeare’s teaching through the gaze of Human Rights: Educators’ perceptions and experiences regarding Human Rights themes in Shakespeare Education'. Paulina was supervised by Dr Sarah Olive and Professor Vanita Sundaram.

Recently defended PhD theses

Amal Fadil successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 13 November 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Girls’ education barriers and NGO’s intervention in the rural Berber villages of Moroccan’s High Atlas Mountains'. Amal was supervised by Professor Ian Davies.

Joyce Vuban successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 12 April 2019. Her research topic focused on 'The influence of the Bologna Process on the harmonisation of Cameroonian higher education'. Joyce was supervised by Professor Paul Wakeling.

Ian Hosack successfully defended his PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 14 August 2018. His research topic focused on 'Japanese high-school English teachers' role as citizenship educators: An exploratory study'. Ian was supervised by Professor Ian Davies.

Maria Chavana Villalobos successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 22 May 2018. Her research topic focused on 'Staying or leaving the course. Students’ experiences in academic elitism in public higher education in Mexico'. Maria was supervised by Professor Paul Wakeling.

Alexander Cutajar successfully defended his PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 22 May 2018. His research topic focused on 'Motivation, engagement and understanding in history:  A study of using moving-image sources in a Maltese secondary history classroom'. Alexander was supervised by Professor Ian Davies.
