Your Appeal will be considered by a Special Cases Committee (SCC), which decides whether or not you have established grounds for appeal.
Appeals are reviewed in the first instance by adminstrative staff. If the form is fully completed, the appeal will be considered at the Formal Stage of the process by an Appeals Chair and one other member of SCC.
The decision on whether or not to have a hearing which you are asked to attend will depend on the circumstances of your appeal. The majority of appeals do not require a full Committee hearing.
The decision on your Formal Stage appeal will be communicated to you in writing, in a Formal Stage Appeal Outcome letter. If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of your Formal Stage appeal you will have the right to request a review of that decision by submitting a Review Stage academic appeal form within 10 calendar days.
Appeals are considered at Review Stage by the Chair or Deputy Chair of Special Cases Committee, in consultation with another member of the Committee who has not previously been involved in considering the case.
If, following the Review Stage, you remain unhappy with the outcome of your appeal, you will be issued with a 'Completion of Procedures' letter.
For full information about the procedures, please read the Student Academic Appeals Procedure (MS Word , 37kb) document.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your appeal following the Review Stage, you will be advised of your right to complain to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).
