1. Degree Apprenticeship Steering Group endorsement

In order to ensure that the University can manage the growth in Degree Apprenticeships programmes the Degree Apprenticeship Steering Group will consider and endorse ideas for programme development or trail-blazing activity. This ensures a coordinated approach, and seeks to support departments by providing the institutional capacity to design and deliver programmes, and the infrastructure to support employers and apprenticeships within programmes.

Before a department starts work on designing a new Degree Apprenticeship programme, endorsement must be obtained from the Degree Apprenticeship Steering Group (DASG). This is not a formal approval route, but it does ensure that the institution has the capability to deliver the programme and that the department is supported through the programme design process.

Endorsement by Degree Apprenticeship Steering Group does not guarantee planning approval of the new programme by Faculty Learning and Teaching Group (FLTG), nor does FLTG approval guarantee academic approval at University Teaching Committee (UTC).

Departments can seek endorsement to develop a new programme in line with an approved apprenticeship standard using the Degree apprenticeships new programmes development endorsement form. There is an expectation that departments will have done some initial scoping with employers to demonstrate the viability of the proposed programme, but more detailed involvement of employers would not be expected at this stage.

Departments can also seek endorsement from the steering group to participate in a trail-blazer group on the development of a new apprenticeship standard. Trail-blazer groups are employer-led but may also have involvement from providers. They work collaboratively to develop a new apprenticeship standard to address a skills need within a specific sector or profession. You will be required to demonstrate the need for the new apprenticeship standard, the partners involved in the trail-blazer group and how the trail-blazer development work will be funded.

Departments are required to seek endorsement to participate in a trailblazer group using the Degree Apprenticeships trailblazer development endorsement form.
