Active Projects

  • ACTIVE – A RCT assessing the effectiveness of internal plate fixation versus external fine wire fixation for the management of Type C, closed pilon fractures of the distal tibia
  • DIDACT - Multi-centre randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of surgery compared with sling immobilisation in the management of adults with radiological diagnosis of a displaced fracture of the distal clavicle that does not involve the acromioclavicular joint.
  • DISC – A RCT comparing injections of collagenase to surgical correction in the treatment of moderate Dupuytren's contracture
  • FARSTER-Care - An RCT investigating whether, following cardiac surgery with full median sternotomy, an accelerated cardiac rehabilitation pathway will lead to improved patient outcomes and is cost effective compared to the usual timing of cardiac rehabilitation.
  • FLARE - A multi-centre, two-arm, non-inferiority, parallel group, randomised controlled trial with an internal pilot, economic evaluation and nested qualitative study, to assess whether the repair of the Flexor Digitorum Profundus (FDP) alone results in a as good as quality of life compared to repairing FDP and the Flexor Digitorum Superficialis (FDS).
  • MEASURE - A national, mixed-methods study to evaluate the impact of High-volume low-complexity surgical hubs in England.
  • PERISCOPE - What are the benefits and harms of continuation versus stoppage of biologics in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA) undergoing orthopaedic surgery?
  • PROFHER-2 – A RCT assessing the effectiveness of Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty versus Hemiarthroplasty versus Non-surgical care for acute three and four-part fractures of the proximal humerus in older adults
  • PROLLIT – A study to develop a Patient Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) for lower limb reconstruction
  • RAPSODI - An RCT assessing whether reverse total shoulder replacement is superior to an anatomical total shoulder replacement for the treatment of painful osteoarthritis of the shoulder joint in patients over 60 years old.
  • SCOOTT - A multi-centre, superiority and non-inferiority three-arm RCT to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of treating arthritis of the base of the thumb, with or without surgery and to determine the clinical and cost effectiveness of trapeziectomy versus base of thumb joint replacement.
  • SOFFT – A non-inferiority RCT of fracture fixation for simple olecranon fractures in adults
