Youth Activism, Engagement and the Development of new Civic Learning Spaces Parliamentary Reception

Posted on 1 July 2019

On Thursday, 13 June 2019, Professor Ian Davies was part of a team funded by the Leverhulme Trust to create and launch a funded teachers’ resource at the Houses of Parliament in London.

Through extensive literature reviews and in depth international networking involving seminars, conferences and public events on 3 continents, the project team have produced academic insights regarding the relationship between education and engagement in society. Contributions from Professor Davies, Professor Andrew Peterson, Dr Jasmine Sim, Dr Dina Kiwan, Professor Márta Fülöp and Professor Mark Evans have made this exciting and engaging project a possibility. Baroness Estelle Morris (former Secretary of State for Education) introduced the event in London.

Following this event, between the 25-27 July, and the Research Centre for Natural Sciences of The Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest Professor Davies and the team will attend a conference to promote their findings once again. Here, over 80 delegates from 20 countries will present papers about key issues, ideas and practices regarding how we can educate about and for taking part in contemporary society.
