Chinese Professor visit

The Department of Education was delighted to welcome Professor Xiandong Yu from Zhengzhou University, China.

A seminar was hosted by the Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice on: Western and Chinese Comparative Studies on Ideological and Political Education and Citizenship Education. Presentations were made by Dr Paul Wakeling and Dr Sally Hancock on issues in higher education; Dr Amanda Naylor on using iPads in teacher education; Dr Beatrice Szczepek Reed and Dr Fatma Said on heritage schools and social justice; and Professor Ian Davies on citizenship and global education. The key note presentation was given by Professor Yu who spoke about socialist values and the development of citizenship education.

Professor Yu held discussions with Education colleagues including Head of Department Dr Szczepek Reed, Director of the Centre for English Language Teaching Dr Paul Roberts and Director of Teacher Education Professor Paula Mountford.

Professor Yu was warmly welcomed by the Director of the International Relations Department, Hilary Layton and the Head of York Courses, Centre for Global Programmes, Matt Smelt-Webb.
