Biography

I have recently joined the PGCE team at York University as a School Partnership Facilitator and contribute across the programme, supporting PGCE students in schools, delivering Whole School Initiatives CPD sessions and supporting School ITT mentors and Project Leads for Schools Direct partnerships.

Career

I previously worked for York Local Authority as a Senior Adviser Behaviour and Safety, working with Primary and Secondary schools. This involved working with Senior Leaders, teachers and other stakeholders in the city to promote positive behaviour and attendance. I am passionate about ensuring that all pupils are given the opportunity to maximise their potential to enhance their life chances and are inspired to want to learn.

I chaired the York Behaviour and Attendance Partnership, whose remit was to consider the needs of the most vulnerable learners in the city. Part of my role with the Safeguarding Board and CAMHs Executive was to collaborate with York St John’s to undertake an annual anti-bullying and wellbeing survey. The data from this four year longitudinal research has provided invaluable information for schools and influenced city wide strategy on well being.

I have delivered training locally, regionally and nationally on promoting positive behaviour to a range of audiences including NQTs and schools causing concern I worked with the City of York safeguarding team, NSPCC and Police to launch the ‘It’s not OK’ campaign to tackle child sexual abuse.

My 25 years teaching experience included teaching Geography and pupils with SEND in a range of secondary schools in Cheshire, Leeds and York across the 11-18 age range. I held responsibility posts as Special Needs Coordinator, Assistant and Deputy Head Teacher.
