Profile

Biography

I am currently a part-time PGCE MFL Tutor and a part-time teacher of German, French and Spanish in a large,11-18 comprehensive school rated ‘outstanding’.

I have significant expertise and valuable experience of working in comprehensive schools in York and Harrogate for over 35 years. I have taught MFL successfully in KS5, KS4 and KS3 and have achieved nationally recognised outcomes at A-Level.

I have extensive middle leadership experience in both the curriculum area of MFL and pastoral care, having been a Subject Leader for German and Spanish and a Year Leader in each of the 3 Key Stages.

I have set up and run a very successful exchange with a school in Germany for the last 10 years and contributed to an equally successful exchange with a school in Spain. I planned and co-ordinated a programme of primary MFL teaching involving a team of 10 MFL teachers and 14 primary schools in York and the surrounding area.

I have the advantage of knowing the mentoring role from the perspective of a school-based mentor and also as a university tutor and assessor.

I am passionate about working with and supporting PGCE Trainees as they develop their skills to start a rewarding and effective career in MFL teaching.
