Heslington East roads and parking

A network of roads has been constructed on Heslington East, though the intention is to keep cars at the periphery for a mainly car-free site.

Routes

Lakeside Way

The ‘movement spine’, known as Lakeside Way, runs from the western access at Field Lane near the Church, to the centre of the site, by the Ron Cooke Hub.  Eventually, it will run all the way through to Grimston Bar at the eastern end.  Lakeside Way is predominantly a bus route.

Kimberlow Lane

At the centre of the site, from the Field Lane roundabout, Kimberlow Lane runs southwards for a few yards and then eastwards, encompassing the car park and bus interchange.  It will link to Grimston Bar and will be the main service road for the eastern half of the campus.

Deramore, Goodricke, Baird, and Freboys Lanes

Running due south from the Field Lane roundabout and its junction with Kimberlow Lane runs Deramore Lane.  It is a circular one-way route running down the central vista to the lake, for access, taxis, and accessible parking only.  Goodricke Lane runs westwards from Deramore Lane, providing the main service route for the western side of the site.  From it Baird Lane (named after John Logie Baird) links to the Department of Theatre, Film and Television, and Freboys Lane (named after John Freboys, a founder of the Merchant Adventurers in York), links to the York Law and Management Schools building.

The Pathway

The pedestrian and cycleway, named the Pathway, runs alongside Lakeside Way at the western end, and then strikes through the centre of the clusters.

Car parking

150 car parking spaces, accessed from the Field Lane roundabout entrance to the site, have been provided, of which 22 are spaces for certified disabled vehicles, adjacent to the buildings.

Access to the car park will be for university and Catalyst staff with permits, who work on Heslington East, and a number of visitors.  Visitor spaces can be booked via reception in the Hub.
