Postgraduate Certificate (Modularised structure from 2011-12 academic year) The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Economics for Health Care Professionals aims to provide you with the basic principles and tools of health economics so that you can understand the work place situations you encounter from an economic perspective and apply basic economic concepts in your work. What is covered? The programmes are based around learning 'modules', which last for approximately 12 weeks and which comprise five or six individual study 'units'. Modules are weighted at 20 'credits', where one credit equals approximately 10 hours of study time. The Certificate involves studying and completing three compulsory modules (the links are to pdf files of the introductory pages to each module. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to access these): Module 1 Basic Economic Concepts Module 2 Health Economics: Concepts and Analysis Module 3 Introduction to Health Care Evaluation Please note: Summaries of the modules can be accessed here for anyone without Adobe Acrobat Reader Module 1 is classed as being one level below a Master’s-level module and aims to provide grounding in basic economic concepts. It is marked on a pass/fail basis. Any students not scoring 50% or more in the Module 1 exam will not receive the award of PGCert. There is an opportunity for reassesment under certain circumstances. More details here How long does it take? One of the aims of the programmes is flexibility. The Certificate can be completed in a minimum of one year and a maximum of four. Each module is taught once per year. The programmes start in late September with Module 1 and later modules follow on consecutively approximatley every 3 months.
