These scholarships and studentships are available to undergraduate students in the Department of Chemistry.
Your chosen course, level of study and other statuses may all affect your eligibility for the opportunities listed here.
Roy Fenton Scholarship
Thanks to a generous donation to the University, the Roy Fenton Scholarship provides support to talented students who have the academic potential to study at York, and who have overcome significant barriers to their educational goals.
Care Leavers and Estranged Students Bursary
This bursary is for students aged under 25, who come to York as care leavers or who are irreconcilably estranged from their parents.
International Regional Scholarship
Our International Regional Scholarship is here to support international undergraduate and postgraduate students to help them excel.
York Refugee Bursary
The Refugee Bursary is a non-repayable award for students who come to York and have a Refugee immigration status.
Dean's Global Excellence Scholarship
To reward excellence, the Dean's Global Excellence Scholarship offers a tuition fee discount to talented undergraduate students within the faculties.
International Achievement Scholarship
Through this scholarship, we aim to celebrate the achievements of our best and brightest international undergraduate applicants.
Equal Access Scholarship (undergraduate)
We're pleased to offer two Equal Access Scholarships for undergraduate students who are seeking refuge in the UK. Please note that you must have applied to the University of York before submitting an application for this scholarship.
Cowrie Foundation Scholarship
Created to offer support to Black British undergraduates from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
York Minster Choral Scholarships
York Minster offers Choral Scholarships to join their highly skilled and internationally renowned choir for 12 months. This year there are vacancies for Alto and Tenor scholarships.
Yorkshire Bach Choir
We are now accepting applications for our choral scholarship scheme for 2023/24. The 12-month scholarships will be open to all four voice parts.
Other funding
Several prizes are awarded annually for the performance of our Chemistry undergraduates.
Prizes based on performance specific to the degree course:
- Whinfield Medal (MChem) for best performance overall on an MChem course
- Whinfield Medal (BSc) for best performance overall on a BSc course
- Margaret Bishop prize for best performance in the third year of the Chemistry, Resources and the Environment course
- AstraZeneca prize (Examination) for the best examination performance in Year 2
- AstraZeneca Prize (Practical) for the best performance on practical work in the core course in Year 2
- The David Rowe Prize in Green and Sustainable Chemistry for the best performance in Year 2
- The David Rowe Prize for Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry for the best performance in Year 2
Prizes based on performance not specific to the degree course:
- John Twycross Prize for an MChem student at York, relating to their personal development record, academic progress and future plans
Our department offers a number of research bursaries to students in the summer between their second and third year to gain laboratory based work experience. Application details will be circulated to eligible students at the beginning of Semester 2.
