CWS students win York Open Research Awards!

Two students in the Centre for Women's Studies, PhD student Alice Flinta and MA student Irene Palencia Mora have both received awards in the York 2026 Open Research Awards.

Alice Flinta was the winner of the Postgraduate Researcher Award  (Arts and Humanities) and Irene was the winner of the Undergraduate/ Taught Masters Research Award (Social Sciences).

The awards celebrate excellence in innovation, advocacy and good practice in research.

Alice (supervised by Dr Boriana Alexandrova, University of York (CWS) and Dr Evangelina Scarpulla from the University of Bologna) was recognised for her work in fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across academic and public spaces, in relation to her research on transnational literatures, feminism, 'race' and migration. 

Irene Palencia Mora (supervised by Dr Rachel Alsop, University of York (CWS) and Dr Cristina Gambieri, University of Bologna) was awarded for her creative approach to her MA dissertation research on the gendering of classical piano performances, which included her own creative video performance. After graduating from CWS Irene is now a doctoral student at UNED in Madrid.
