Don't just take our word for it, read what these Buddies told us about their experiences of being involved in the Student Buddying Scheme.

Owen, History and Politics

I had a student buddy when I started at York, it helped me so much that I knew I wanted to be one and help other people. I've been doing it for two years now and it has been an excellent experience both times. It has been a great opportunity to help new students feel welcomed in to the University of York community by answering queries and offering advice. I've also made several good friends who I've continued to stay in contact with after the scheme. If you're looking for a way help people settle into the York, being a student buddy is for you!!

Georgie, Psychology

Being a student buddy is so rewarding - knowing that I'm helping ease the same sort of worries that I had when starting uni, but this time with some specific, insider knowledge is really beneficial! I've not only gained communication and relation skills, but also gained some useful work experience on my journey to being a Clinical Psychologist. I would highly recommend the scheme to anyone - whether you're the person needing the support or being the person providing it!

Lauren, Physics

Through being a student buddy, I have been able to build a rapport with my students; keeping in touch via emails, in-person meetings and Zoom calls! Because the students were studying the same subject as me, it meant that I could give them tips about what to expect from the course and university life. Overall, being a student buddy has been such a rewarding experience; watching the students grow in confidence and being able to make them feel reassured that they had somebody to talk to during the transition to university were definitely highlights of the role!
