Psychology at York is one of the most research-intensive departments in the UK. In the Times Higher Education's ranking of REF 2014 our overall research performance was 4th in the UK. Our research outputs (peer-reviewed papers) were 2nd in the UK, with 95% being classified as world-leading or internationally excellent.

A research degree from this department will be recognised world-wide as indicating that you have trained in a department with a strong reputation for research excellence. 

Our staff

There are around 50 members of academic staff as well as a technical and administrative team to support research and teaching. We also have around 50 full-time and part-time PhD students.

Facilities

The Psychology department is in an attractive location on the main University campus and occupies modern purpose-built accommodation and is furnished with state-of-the-art research and computer equipment. All our research postgraduates are provided with their own desk and computer and have full access to laboratory facilities.

We have excellent specialised research facilities at the University including the York Neuroimaging Centre (YNIC) as well as links to external facilities where our research is conducted.
