Cross-cutting Themes

Abstract network

We are also interested in the development of standardised measures for HAI outcomes, methodological development, cost-effectiveness, and cultural adaptation.

Concerns have been expressed over limitations of existing studies in the HAI field, primarily due to methodological restrictions. While research indicates the benefits of HAIs, existing evidence syntheses unanimously point to the need for more rigorous large scale randomised controlled trials to improve research and practice. Furthermore, given the complex and dynamic interaction between the human-animal bond and human-related factors, there is currently little consensus on the terminology used to describe or quantify human-animal relationships. The instruments available are generally limited, especially for measuring the human-animal bond in adults.
