Optimized Heterogeneous Multiuser MIMO Networks

This project deals with robust multiuser MIMO (which stands for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) networks using heterogeneous wireless mobile access technologies (ad-hoc network type communications but also third generation (WLAN, UMTS) and fourth generation communications).

The aim is to develop several novel techniques taking into account the high number of degrees of freedom offered by the networks (multiuser, space, time and frequency diversity) but also guaranteeing a fixed quality of service through cross-system diversity (always connecting to the best network at any time).

Issues related to security will also be addressed by innovative signal processing techniques using the reciprocity of the channel.

The research will be carried by a strong research group (having world known expertise in this field) formed by the project leader Are Hjørungnes (Associate Professor - UniK), Matthias Pätzold (Professor - AUC), Mérouane Debbah, David Gesbert (guest researchers from Eurécom Institute), Rodrigo C. de Lamare (guest researcher from University of York), Paulo S. R. Diniz, Ricardo Merched (guest researchers from UFRJ), Ricardo L. de Queiroz (guest researcher from UnB), five Ph.D. students, and one postdoctoral researcher.
