Electromagnetic Interference in Hospitals

Hospitals and healthcare trusts are concerned about interference to medical devices from mobile phones and other hand-held transmitters. We have quantified the threat to intensive care equipment, showing that although some pieces of medical equipment can suffer interference at very close proximity to a mobile, this is very unliley to happen at distances of greater than two metres. More recently we have investigated spectrum management of wireless technology, particularly in the 2.45GHz band, which is shared by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microwave ovens and specialised hospital equipment.
