Distributed Space-Time Coding and Signal Processing Techniques for Wireless Communications

Cooperative diversity is currently being considered for a number of wireless standards and with the demand for greater capacity and reduction in energy consumption, the use of distributed space-time coding and low-complexity DSP is of central importance towards meeting future demands. These techniques have recently attracted a great deal of interest for improving the range and capacity of wireless networks that employ spread spectrum-based air interfaces such as the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

In particular, the purpose of this research is to design novel multi-user detection techniques that can be applied at both the relays and the destination for the up-link cooperative DS-CDMA system, together with advanced relay selection methods and power allocation schemes, we aim to approach a better BER performance over other existing algorithms. Additionally, we will also consider the distributed space-time coding and the network coding techniques to explore further improvement for the overall system.

The activities will involve the development of system and signal models using linear algebra, simulation tools, practical DSP algorithms and analytical approaches.
