Building inclusive practice into your life during higher education, and beyond

Inclusive-Learning@York is excited to announce a new online course designed to introduce students across all stages of their higher education journey (including those about to enter HE) to the different concepts and discussions that underpin inclusive learning and teaching practice. It draws on student and staff expertise on inclusive learning and teaching from across the institution, so may be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about inclusive practice across the University of York.

What will be involved?

This course is designed to introduce students, across all stages of their higher education journey (including those about to enter into HE), to the different concepts and discussions that underpin inclusive learning and teaching practice, placing student experience and engagement at the forefront. Where do students fit in the journey towards inclusive education? From inclusive language and accessibility to student-led change and decolonising the curriculum, this course will develop your understanding of inclusive practice, and enable you to explore how we can make higher education environments more accessible, engaging and welcoming for all.

Course learning outcomes:

  • Discuss key topics about inclusive learning and teaching within Higher Education
  • Reflect on what inclusive practice means for you as a student and as an individual
  • Identify how you can develop your own inclusive practice and be part of a diverse, global community in your institution
  • Engage with key critical debates such as decolonising and diversifying the curriculum in Higher Education
