The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is delighted to announce new additions to its series of short courses as part of its Languages for All programme.

These courses are open to everyone - students, university staff and the general public - and run for 8 weeks over one university term. LFA short courses in the Spring Term will run from Week 2 (beginning Monday 16 January 2023) and will end in Week 9 (finishing Friday 10 March 2023).

Languages for Specific Purposes short courses offered in the Spring Term 2023 are:

Languages for Musicians (Italian or German language)

The main emphasis of the course is the development of music-related language skills, including appropriate diction and phonetics. Libretti, songs and audio-visual material are used as a source for language exercises as well as reading and speaking activities.

Medieval Documentary Latin

Get an opportunity to practise your skills at reading, transcribing, editing and translating medieval documents such as wills, charters and land grants. The course is particularly relevant to absolute beginners with no knowledge of Latin who have an interest in ancient texts.

General short courses offered in the Spring Term 2023 are:

Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian and also Ukrainian (brand new for Spring 2023!).
