Changing your password

The 'Changing your password' link takes you to IDM, the University's account management system.

Setting up your personal Android phone

When you first setup your personal Android phone you should use your personal Google account as your primary account. Using your personal Google Account to setup your phone means that all apps, music, films etc. purchased via Google Play will be tied to that account rather than your University one and you won’t lose your content if/when you leave the University. If you’d like to also use your University Google account on your personal Android device set it up as your secondary account.

If you have already setup your Android phone with your University Google account as your primary account and would like to change this you will have to perform a factory reset and setup your phone again as new. You will then be able to add your University account as a secondary account to regain access to your apps and other content.

Adding a secondary Google account and accessing apps and content associated to that account:

  1. Open “Settings” > “Accounts“ (Menu may be differently worded depending on version of the Android OS or device)
  2. Select “Add account
  3. Select “Google“ then go through the steps to sign your Android into your University account.
  4. Once the account is added, open the “Google Play” app
  5. Select the “Menu” button located at the upper-left corner of the screen.
  6. Select the small arrow next to your google account, then choose your University account
  7. Select “Menu” > “My apps” to download and install the apps that are purchased under your University account.

Multiple accounts

This is a key feature for anyone with more than one Google account (eg a personal and a University account).

It allows you to remain logged-in to both accounts, and switch between them quickly.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click Profile.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Choose a name and a photo.
  5. Click Add. A new window will open and ask you to turn on sync.
  6. (Optional) Turn sync on in Chrome with a Google Account for the new profile. Bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings will automatically sync.

Teaching & Learning in Library Services have put together this quick video to demonstrate multiple Google accounts.

You are advised to use this feature with caution - for example, ensure that you check the account you are using before you send email

Security options

You can opt to set up two-step verification, which adds an extra level of security to your account.

You can also review what applications you have granted access to your account (eg a phone app) and view your dashboard etc.
