British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship award for Professor von Stumm

Posted on 17 May 2021

Professor Sophie von Stumm has been awarded a prestigious Mid-Career Fellowship by the British Academy to explore the idea of ‘personalised’ education.

British Academy Mid-Career Fellowships are awarded to outstanding researchers to undertake a major research project which promotes public understanding and engagement with humanities and social sciences. Professor von Stumm’s project will explore the risks and advantages of personalising education to meet children’s different learning needs.

The one-year project, which will start in January 2022, will consider the difference between equality of opportunity and equity in outcomes in educational settings, and will seek to increase public awareness of these issues.

Professor von Stumm will produce a podcast in which she interviews a number of experts on the subject of personalised education and will co-develop a television documentary on the topic. She will also produce an academic review article, a policy brief and a newspaper article exploring the wider themes of the research.
